Household softening
Water softeners for Marbella homes
Discuss a household softener installation or replacement. Suitability and size depend on measured hardness, real demand and the property; the responsible contractor, scope and charges are agreed before booking.

What ion exchange actually does
Hardness comes mainly from calcium and magnesium. An ion-exchange softener passes water through resin that holds those minerals and releases sodium (or potassium) in their place. Periodically it regenerates with brine, flushing the collected hardness to a drain.
The result is water that forms far less scale in heaters, showers and appliances. It is a treatment for hardness, not a purifier, and it does not make water safer to drink.
Softener or anti-scale conditioner?
Ion-exchange softener
- Removes hardness minerals from the treated water
- Needs salt, a drain and usually power
- Hardness readings after the unit are lower
Anti-scale conditioner
- Minerals remain in the water
- Aims to change how scale behaves; results vary by device and setting
- Hardness readings do not change
Checked before anything is proposed
- Actual hardness
- Measured at the property. Water is not identical along the coast, and supply can vary.
- Demand
- Occupancy, bathrooms, guest use, irrigation or pool top-up connections.
- Flow and pressure
- So a unit does not become a bottleneck at peak use.
- Space, bypass, power and drain
- Where it can physically go, how it is isolated, and where regeneration water goes.
- Regeneration and maintenance
- Salt access, refill routine and who will look after it.
